Interfaith Hospitality Network Commitee
|
|
|
|
 |
The Interfaith Hospitality Network
(IHN) is a national movement to provide temporary shelter,
meals, and support services for families who are homeless.
Networks are locally formed by groups of congregations who join
together in rotating the use of their facilities to welcome the
families as their guests for one week at a time, three or four
times a year.
Each
local program shelters a maximum of
fourteen people at a time through a network of area churches,
synagogues or other faith communities. These congregations
provide overnight shelter, meals and evening activities for
the families at their church.

Daytime
shelter and professional services are offered at the local IHN
office and day center. Transportation between locations is
provided by the local IHN. Families staying in shelter must work
with a case manager to seek housing, employment and other
community services. Adult also attend educational workshops.
An
IHN is currently being organized in the Metrowest area. The IHN
Committee at Christ The King is preparing to participate in this
network as an outreach ministry of our church.
In order
to do so, the congregation must first vote to bring the church
into the network.
We are working towards a formal
congregational vote in January of 2006 that will make us a
committed member of the Metrowest IHN |
|
|
|
For now, the
committee’s main thrust is to educate the congregation in
regards to IHN and the homeless problem in our area so that we
as a congregation can make an informed decision.
After the
vote, once the Metrowest network is established, the committee
will recruit volunteers and organize the hosting of families at
the church. |
